BHP Shareholders for Social Responsibility

What has been the response of BHP's board to the Shareholders for Social Responsibility?

A number of meetings with management have been held over the years.
It is apparent that the outcry raised over Ok Tedi caused the company considerable concern.
Our company has admitted that Ok Tedi was a bad mistake, and made it clear that it would like to withdraw. As the dominant shareholder this is not easily possible.
Meantime Ok Tedi continues to mine, and the damage escalates downstream.

Questions have been asked at Annual General Meetings.

Membership of the group has doubled in the year since September 1999 when we created this simple website and were mentioned by Community Aid Abroad in their journal 'Horizons'.
We are close to gaining the ability to place resolutions on the notice paper for General Meetings.

We made a request in writing prior to the 2000 AGM which was held in Adelaide, in October.
We repeated our request at the meeting.
Our request and BHP's response can be found at the AGM - click here.

We look forward to further updating this page when we have again met with management.
